Field Application Scientist - Process Chromatography

The Field Application Specialist in the Process Chromatography Business (PCB) will be an integral member of the Process Chromatography Team providing technical expertise to customers in the field. This field based position will ideally be located in the mid Atlantic area with easy access to Northeast (Boston) customer base. Candidate should have easy access to a major airport. Travel Requirements 50%. PCB is a Global team and therefore, international travel may be required.

How You'll Make An Impact:



  • Scientific & technical support of Process Chromatography sales team and customers with the goal to integrate Bio- Rad media into industrial processes for purification of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API's).
  • Initiate, design, and execute studies for customer projects to develop and/or optimize purification steps using Bio-Rad media in the application lab or at customer's labs.
  • Planning, design and performing chromatographic purification of proteins from feed streams provided by customers or on model samples (cell culture and others).
  • Optimization of purification steps using Bio-Rad media with the target to provide procedures superior to competition in order to achieve the customer's decision to integrate our product into their production process.
  • Solving issues related to Bio-Rad's products at customers location including column packing exercises as well as troubleshooting column packing activities.
  • Close cooperation with PCD sales specialists and marketing including execution of onsite customer presentations, remote/online presentations, and support of industry trade show events.
  • Close collaboration with R&D and global Process Chromatography Application Support teams for knowledge and project management.
  • Comparative studies of Bio-Rad media with competition.
  • Evaluation and characterization of prototypes of new media and instruments with feedback to R&D and marketing.
  • Training of customers and employees.
  • Write, design and present reports and presentation of results and present it to internal and external partners.
  • Create & perform presentations at scientific and technical meetings ensuring the confidentiality of customer's data.
  • Organize and support seminars, workshops, training and scientific meetings for customers or Bio-Rad employees in cooperation with sales and marketing.
  • Write and publish technical articles related to Bio-Rad products in lab journals and scientific literature.
  • Active participation at scientific committees and organizations.
  • Monitor scientific literature and patents for relevant information.
  • Stay informed of new methods, trends, developments etc. related to the work area and report to marketing and sales management.
  • Provide proposals for new products and improvements of existing products.
  • The FAS reports to the Associate Director of Americas PCB sales team.


What You Bring:



  • Education: Bachelors in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or Molecular Biology require. Masters or PhD. preferred.
  • Experience in protein purification groups in an industry setting (Pharma, biotech, and/or CMO).
  • Experience with large scale downstream processing.
  • Solid, proven experience in all aspects of protein purification and purification process development for early stage protein therapeutics.
  • Strong understanding of the biotech industry needs in terms of product quality and process-flow.
  • Deep and broad knowledge of protein analytical technology.
  • Up-to-date information on new target molecules and new purification applications.
  • Extensive and proven theoretical basis and hands-on experience in protein purification and analytical characterization.
  • Characterization of reagent and therapeutic candidate proteins including tagged and untagged proteins, monoclonal antibodies, and antibody scaffolds.
  • Technical expertise with automation and high-throughput research processes.
  • Experience in a customer-facing role is desirable.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership.
  • Detailed knowledge on scientific publications in process chromatography.
  • Public speaking - delivered presentations at conferences, trade shows, symposiums.

Compensation: The estimated base salary range for this position is $91,500 to $125,900 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
