Job Description

Zayo is seeking an Employee Relations Manager to be responsible for overseeing and implementing employee relations programs, providing consultation, facilitation, and resolution strategies for workplace issues raised by employees and people managers.

Our Employee Relations Manager will have experience leading enterprise-wide programs, as well as a strategic and proactive approach to resolving workplace issues, promoting employee engagement, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies. Acting as a trusted advisor to both employees and people managers, the Employee Relations Manager implements solutions that support a fair and productive workplace.

Under direction of HR Business Partner (HRBP) leadership, our Employee Relations Manager assesses and investigates workplace concerns, interprets company policies and state and federal employment laws, and responds to related inquiries.Our Employee Relations Manager partners with HRBPs to develop proactive employee relations responses and programs.

*We're open to this position working in a hybrid capacity out of our Denver, CO office (1401 Wynkoop).

Responsibilities:

Consultation and notification of stakeholders:

  • Follow established notification and consultation procedures for sensitive topics such as harassment and/or discrimination allegations by engaging the appropriate parties (i.e. HRBP leaders and Legal) timely for scope review and direction.

Identification and Analysis:

  • Identify and analyze employee relations issues, recommending actions to maintain consistency, achieve optimal performance, and minimize risk.

  • Foster a workplace culture promoting a respectful work environment characterized by diversity, equity, collaboration, and inclusion.

Investigation & Policy Interpretation, Consultation & Support:

  • Conduct comprehensive file review/investigations and provide clear and accurate interpretations of company policies and labor laws.

  • Lead inquiries into employee issues and grievances, demonstrating a proactive approach to resolving conflicts and maintaining a productive and respectful work environment.

  • Provide timely and effective employee relations support for people managers, including coaching, discipline, performance management, policy interpretation, and involuntary terminations.

Documentation, Case Management & Attention to Detail in Processes:

  • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all ER case management activities and retain accordingly.

  • Ensure file recommendations are accurate and a completed work product.

  • Timely and accurate completion of off boarding processes.

Issue Identification and Analysis:

  • Demonstrate the ability to accurately identify, analyze, and recommend actions to address ER issues, maintaining consistency and minimizing risk.

Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business or other related field plus five (5) years of related experience; OR nine (9) years of direct related experience required. High school diploma or GED required

  • Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated experience accurately interpreting and applying employment policies and procedures in a large, complex organization

  • Experience working in union environments and/or Canada, preferred

  • Experience in the telecommunications industry, a plus

  • PHR/SPHR certification strongly, preferred

  • In-depth knowledge of employment law, practices, federal, state and provincial regulations

  • Strong issue-spotting and analytical problem solving skills for effective intake, analysis, and escalation of ER issues and cases

  • Ability to synthesize key insights from ER data and analytics

  • Proven ability to build relationships with stakeholders to drive the ER strategy

  • Strong collaboration in business partnership with exceptional verbal/written communication skills

  • Self-motivated multitasker, who is extremely organized, with exceptional attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in handling routine and non-routine situations

  • Demonstrated ability to lead discussions, influence and negotiate, to effectively engage and communicate at all levels of the organization

  • Ability to understand the need for change and adjust accordingly

  • Ability to handle all responsibilities with a high level of diplomacy and discretion

  • Ability to safeguard confidential and proprietary company and employee information

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint

  • Proficient in Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar

  • Experience in Workday, preferred

Base Pay Range: $66,500 - $105,000 USD/annually, commensurate with experience.
