Position Highlights Pima County Cooperative Extension seeks to fill the role of Community Outreach Assistant II. The primary purpose of this position is to implement Promoting Local Arizona Agriculture (PLAZA) Mobile Market locations for Pima County Cooperative Extension's The Garden Kitchen program. PLAZA Mobile Market is a low-cost farmers market that sources locally and sells in under-resourced communities. This position includes implementation of programming at sites, coordination of partners and programming, coordinating delivery of program materials, and collecting date to be entered into multiple data collection systems.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Program implementation: Implements Arizona Health Zone programming. Implements trauma informed food systems programming, including preparing for, implementing, and breaking down the PLAZA mobile market at a minimum of two weekly markets. Is responsible for purchase and delivery of market foods, is the designated cash handler at markets, and coordinates with Assistant Agent and Program coordinator to coordinate with students and monitor their activities at markets.
  • Outreach: Facilitates community engagement at markets for continued program improvements. Represents The Garden Kitchen at community events and delivers programming with colleagues at The Garden Kitchen facility and/or at partner sites. May assist with developing recipes, handouts, and content for programs. May identify needs for additional programs or services through community engagement.
  • Administration: Enters data from the markets into multiple data collection systems, attends Arizona Health Zone and other relevant trainings, provides accurate and timely monthly reports, time log, and mileage log, and implements program evaluations.

  • Ability and skill in driving van and shuttle bus for programming.
  • Proficient skill communicating effectively with a diverse individuals, specifically individuals from marginalized communities.
  • Ability to work organized manner and take initiative to implement program
  • Ability to display a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work well with a team and individually
  • Ability to be flexible, and creative.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes.
  • Ability to work with attention to detail in money handling, inventory, and reporting duties.
  • Knowledge of, understanding of or familiarity with local food systems programming, for example farmers' markets, farming/gardening, local food procurement.
  • Knowledge of, understanding of or familiarity with food security programming, for example food pantries, mutual aid food distribution, government assistance food programming.
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
  • Customer service skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience including prior experience in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to obtain a level 1 fingerprint clearance card is required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

  • Proficiency or fluency in Spanish.
