Department and Position Background

Cornell University, a nationally ranked Ivy League institution, is looking for a Program Assistant, Student and Young Alumni Programs and Affinity Programs to join the Alumni Affairs & Development division in Ithaca, NY.

The Student & Young Alumni Programs (SYAP) team is a fast-paced, innovative group, tasked with supporting current students and alumni 1-20 years out. We work to build inclusive communities where the next generation of alumni connect, contribute, and lead throughout their lifelong journey with Cornell. SYAP sits within the Class, Affinity, Student & Young Alumni Programs team (CSYAP), a collaborative, supportive, and creative group of engagement officers within Cornell Alumni Affairs and Development (AAD). CSYAP is responsible for supporting eight decades of Cornellians through class and affinity interests, including Reunions on campus each June.

The Program Assistant will contribute to the Student and Young Alumni Programs (SYAP) and Affinity Programs teams to meet strategic imperatives for the division. This role will also support the Director of Affinity Programs in connecting alumni back to Cornell through affinity involvement, such as with student organizations they participated in while on campus. The person in this role will assist with programming and event planning and execution, marketing, budgeting, data tracking and reporting, student hiring and training, and other essential administrative functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing up to 30 team events per year for students and alumni
  • Support email marketing and communications/branding initiatives
  • Manage budgets, spending, and purchasing
  • Capture, track, and report on volunteer service and event engagement data
  • Code involvement data to help us better connect with alumni based on their interests
  • Help facilitate student recruiting, hiring, and onboarding for student employment and volunteer positions, especially for Reunion
  • Participate in professional development and stay current with best practices relevant to the role

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree and two to four years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
  • Highly detail-oriented and comfortable with learning new technology.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.Must be able to maintain lasting relationships on behalf of the university.
  • Competence to balance multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines.Strong organizational skills with keen sense for accuracy.
  • Ability to build consensus and prioritize work in a complex organization made up of diverse individuals including students, alumni, and staff.
  • Enthusiasm for working with student and young alumni audiences.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Commitment to working in a team-centered and supportive environment.
  • Position requires some evening and occasional weekend work.

This position is based in Ithaca, NY with a hybrid work arrangement. The final candidate will be expected to work on-site 2 - 3 days per week with the ability to work remotely within a commutable distance up to 3 days per week.
