MongoDB is looking for a senior product leader to map out our long-term vision for customer-facing observability for MongoDB Atlas, and our internal observability platform These initiatives include 1) delivering best-in-class observability for our MongoDB database cluster experience, including solutions for diagnostics, insights, and recommendations for the most common use cases 2) partnering with 3rd party observability platforms to deliver a complement to our in-house observability solution and 3) delivering an internal metrics as a service platform for the more extensive MongoDB product portfolio (Search, Edge, Data Federation, etc). This leader will align our product roadmap and partner relationships with the overarching goal of cohesively collecting and utilizing this data to make both internal and customer-centric operational decisions and enhance anomaly detection, and advanced prediction mechanisms.

This role can be based remotely in Palo Alto, New York City, or Canada.


Responsibilities

  • This highly visible position drives collaboration across engineering, support, design, marketing, sales, and executive leadership
  • Be a catalyst for developing a vision and roadmap that will lead to near-term and long-term wins in getting more applications onto MongoDB
  • Deeply understand all aspects of the business - to ensure a business outcome aligned with our broader product, customer, and company needs
  • Play an influential role in driving decisions for technical, business, and organizational issues surrounding observability


Requirements

  • 15+ years of product or engineering experience working with enterprise-focused technologies
  • Previous experience managing, monitoring, and deploying databases at scale, MongoDB-specific experience a plus
  • Familiarity with all components of the application stack and enterprise application development process
  • Solid technical skills. Our product managers must be just as technical as their engineering counterparts, and have knowledge in these areas to better advocate for our users; while not expected to write production code, be comfortable speaking authoritatively on any of the technical aspects of the tools in your portfolio
  • Skills to effectively establish and communicate product strategy & vision to all relevant stakeholders; ability to translate technology features into business benefits
  • Strong team skills and experience to bring together diverse views, a can-do attitude, optimism, humility, and willingness to embrace the unknown
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to large audiences
  • Self-starter who enjoys strategic challenges across a broad range of disciplines
  • Experience with developer-focused cloud growth models is a plus


Success Measures

Within 3 months:



  • Understand the mission and vision for the Observability Organization
  • Meet and learn about your stakeholder teams in the R&D organization
  • Meet and learn about your stakeholders for customer facing products
  • Understand and be able to explain your software ecosystem at a high level
  • Familiarize yourself with key initiatives, including metrics as a service, workload observability, GTM workload tagging


Within 6 months:



  • Gain a deeper understanding of your group's roadmap
  • Gain a deeper understanding of both organizational and product scaling challenges
  • Engage in both team growth and team retention activities, including interviews and performance and growth conversations
  • Co-author Executive Staff Review for Observability
  • Establish working professional relationships with other key leaders and stakeholders
  • Start developing ideas towards observability investments with regards to fleet monitoring and deep diagnostic visibility, in order to aid incident, maintenance and remediation technologies


Within 12 months:



  • Author an updated vision as well as operational, and budget plan for observability, inclusive of broad self-service platform support as well as deep database observability functionality
  • Create updated strategy towards observability investments with regards to fleet monitoring and deep diagnostic visibility, in order to aid incident, maintenance and remediation technologies
  • Grow and develop stronger 3rd party integration relationships to create an environment where the customers observability platform has first-class support
  • Complete annual review and "right sizing" team exercise, including assisting in hiring and onboarding new team members

MongoDB's base salary range for this role is posted below. Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB's total compensation and benefits package. Other benefits for eligible employees may include: equity, participation in the employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, 401(k) plan, mental health counseling, access to transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage, and health benefits offerings. Please note, the base salary range listed below and the benefits in this paragraph are only applicable to U.S.-based candidates.

$160,000 $314,000 USD
