Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) seeks an experienced actuarial analyst to join the Actuarial Leadership Development program. Members of the Actuarial Leadership Development Program support our corporate strategy in critical areas including competitiveness, affordability, profitability, provider payment reform and health care policy.

Your day-to-day:
  • Work with a rich dataset and a robust well-established Enterprise Data Warehouse to identify emerging drivers of health care trend and cost, market pressures, and profitability.
  • Design compelling visualizations and build innovative models to influence and analyze new products, provider payment structures, and health care delivery mechanisms that will lower cost and improve the quality of care provided to our members.
  • Make recommendations to various customers/departments Lead and/or assist in development of processes/analyses to determine financial performance or evaluate cost/benefit, working to ensure consistent representation across the entire business
  • Participate in determining objectives of significant projects or assignments

We're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Math, Business, Healthcare or related field strongly preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years professional experience, preferably in healthcare or related industry
  • Minimum of 4 completed actuarial exams required
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in data analysis/extraction/manipulation using tools like SAS, SQL, R, Python, etc. strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years experience developing data visualization in tools such as Tableau and analytic automation (scripting, macros) strongly preferred

  • Ability to communicate (written & verbal) and collaborate with various business partners, including clinical and technical and non-technical staff required
  • Proven ability to constantly innovate
  • Commitment to participate in the Actuarial Leadership Development Program and obtain FSA designation

Minimum Education Requirements:

High school degree or equivalent required unless otherwise noted above

LocationBoston Time TypeFull time Salary Range: $85,000.00 - $114,200.00

The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee's pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.

This job is also eligible for variable pay.
