GENERAL PURPOSE

Leads a team and finance-related activities in support of multiple/large projects/ functions or major business units/product lines that are a significant element of the organization's business/operations. Oversees the preparation of highly detailed and most complex financial analyses and research for financial forecasts and projections. Conducts financial analysis through the application of expert general content or specialized technical knowledge to business units. Assignments provide exposure to the most complex financial concepts, issues and activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Actively participates/interacts with the Finance Team Leaders on an ongoing basis and during month-end/year-end close.
  • Applies thorough understanding or organizational structure, strategic business unit and objectives.
  • Develops and delegates strategic work initiatives to achieve desired business results.
  • Ensures adherence to HMI financial policy and GAAP.
  • Identifies individual team member career development needs and resources or activities to achieve them.
  • Leads major projects or must solve very complex problems having time and resource constraints.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of complex HMI IT systems and their inter-relationships and dependencies.
  • Maintains an effective and documented internal control environment as required under 404 (SOX) within area(s) of responsibility and the areas supported by the team.
  • Oversees work team of finance professionals, including direct day-to-day activities.
  • Oversees business analysis of financial results, processes and forecasts to identify areas of focus for improvements, problem areas, overall direction of results and quality of content.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
  • Prepares and reviews detailed and complex account analyses and financial statements.
  • Provides strategic financial input into assigned Business Unit's strategic and financial plans.
  • Provides support to other business partners with their financial accounting issues and requirements.
  • Reviews and re-engineers business processes as necessary, identifies business requirements and manages change.
  • Works very closely with other finance areas and auditors to coordinate quarterly and annual audits and acts as a liaison with other business partners to gather required financial information to complete audit work on a timely basis.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead the One Stream Administration team as the Work Team Leader, including oversight of work quality and outstanding application design to support the longer-term health of the application, maintenance, and future needs of the MillerKnoll Organization.
  • Work with financial leadership and key stake holders to identify business requirements, goals, and objectives to make finance and financial reporting needs of the organization more effective and efficient.
  • Investigate solutions within the One Steam platform and "app" store to provide additional value to the organization.
  • Work with the consolidations, FP&A and business unit leads to continue to enhance the record to report processes to support internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Work to define a road map for additional product line reporting to support the segment reporting initiatives and to support business decisions.
  • Develop a road map for all the initiatives, work with finance leadership to prioritize and execute these initiatives.
  • Work with the consolidations team to bring the legacy Knoll business units more closely into the Herman Miller legacy processes, including creating better visibility into the status of the close across MillerKnoll to support business partner needs.
  • Support various SOX compliance requirement associated with this application and hosting solution.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. CPA or MBA preferred.
  • 6+ years of professional financial analysis experience resulting in an excellent understanding of accounting principles and EVA fundamentals.
  • 5-7 years of experience in management/supervision of accounting professionals.

Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, solve problems, and work with all levels in the organization, including executive leadership.
  • Strong analytical, organization, time management and process management skills for success in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated high level of written, verbal and interpersonal skills to communicate information, ideas, procedures and processes in a logical sequence; at a level appropriate to the audience and resulting in effective working relationships.
  • Must have competencies that include strong business literacy, systemic thinking, coaching skills, customer focus, planning skills, organizational skills, and ability to be resourceful and timely in completing work assignments.
  • Demonstrated leadership competence as defined in Herman Miller's Leadership Competency Model. Exhibits a high degree of accuracy & attention to detail in completed assignments.
  • Previous experience and current knowledge of Financial Systems used at HMI.
  • Demonstrated ability to use office automation software and communication tools currently used in the HMI office environment. Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.

Additional Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to manage meetings, summarizing requirements and business needs.
  • Ability to manage agenda's and to create accountability for definition of requirements and deliverables from team members outside of immediate team.
  • Ability to manage small and large projects with a attention to deliverables, milestone and timelines to ensure overall project success.
  • Strong knowledge of consolidations process and GAAP.
