Overview
USU Extension in Salt Lake County is seeking a highly qualified Program Coordinator III to oversee the implementation of multiple federally and county funded projects. One of these projects is a school violence prevention grant funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) being conducted in partnership with Granite School District. This project will include violence prevention education for students and their families within three high schools, seven junior high schools, and 26 elementary schools. It also includes the development of a network of youth courts across Granite School District. A second project, also funded by the OJJDP, is designed to prevent youth substance misuse through the delivery of research-based workshops and evidence-based programs that meet the needs identified by the 38 participating schools and community partners. A key component of both projects is family engagement and school-family collaboration to build social-emotional skills and enhance resilience in students. This approach includes a multi-tiered support system for the growing network of school project teams that receive technical support and implementation assistance from the USU project team. Additional projects involve the delivery of prevention programming and skill-building curricula to students and families in communities across Salt Lake County.

This position is funded for two years but may be longer contingent upon funding.

  • They will also provide direct mentoring, coaching, and oversight to project team members across the network of participating schools around best practices related to promotion and marketing of educational activities and family engagement strategies
  • They will serve as a liaison between the USU project team and school district representatives such as principals, social workers, and family engagement staff for purposes of project recruitment, planning, implementation, and quality improvement
  • In addition, they will coordinate project initiatives with state and local stakeholders and collaborators such as managers of state and county youth serving agencies, the Utah Department of Safety, local Salt Lake County law enforcement precincts, coalitions, and the National Guard's Drug Demand Reduction Outreach office, to name a few
  • They will be responsible for creating and providing trainings and professional development opportunities for school project coordinators, project team members, interns, volunteers, and collaborators from other agencies
  • They will also be responsible for the development of research-based curricula for students, parents, and school personnel and contribute to implementation manuals, articles, conference presentations, and other information dissemination efforts. In addition, this position will assist the project director with the evaluation of project activities, including collecting and analyzing data; preparing scheduled and special reports to federal funders; and maintaining program records and statistical information
