SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

We are seeking a passionate student intern to join our Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging team to help promote our enterprise-wide strategic goals and initiatives. During the internship, students will work on projects that have a measurable impact on our business while being coached and mentored by Amtrak DI&B professionals. You will learn the fundamentals of driving a DI&B strategy at a large organization, engaging with varied stakeholders, and gain exposure to other functions of HR and the business as a whole.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Specific projects and responsibilities may include:



  • Providing support to our Employee Resource Groups and Diversity Councils, through the creation of ERG toolkits, developing new resources, attending meetings, and working directly with ERG leaders.
  • Curating content to advance diversity, inclusion and belonging. Including, but not limited to Thriving at Amtrak series, roundtable discussions, podcasts, LinkedIn campaign and spotlighting our employees.
  • Participate in industry related award(s) submission and develop a process for applying, tracking, and evaluating these annual awards.
  • Conduct research on current trends, best practices, and industry standards related to diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Planning, designing and curating content for our SharePoint site



In addition to your valuable on the job learning, interns participate in robust programming including professional development activities, cross-functional projects, senior leader exposure, networking events, and visits to a variety of Amtrak sites. These events will help you gain exposure to the many exciting opportunities that lay ahead of you as you build your career at Amtrak.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business, Communications, Psychology, Sociology, Organizational Development/Effectiveness, Adult education or related field.
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Strong interest in Diversity & Inclusion initiatives.
  • Prior relevant work experience or coursework a plus.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within campus and/or the community
  • Proficiency in creating presentations
  • Effective project management skills
  • A desire to build a career in human resources in a fast-paced service and industrial environment
  • Ability to execute with minimal direction and prepared to navigate change with patience and optimism
  • Intellectually curious; always willing to probe deeper to understand organizational behavior and performance



COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.

Summer 2025 internship program will run from May 19th - August 8, 2025.

In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for providers of public transportation (Title 6 U.S.C. *1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.
