Staff Accountant

Department: Finance

Reports To: Accounting Supervisor

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary:

The Staff Accountant supports the Accounting Supervisor and/or Sr Accounting Manager in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance and Accounting Department. Key responsibilities include maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts as well as preparing journal entries and financial reports. In addition, the Staff Accountant provides analysis to support company management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in month-end close by completing monthly journal entries and reviewing financial statements
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and management responsibility statements for multiple companies, functional areas, and/or lines of business
  • Reconcile and analyze assigned balance sheet accounts; resolve discrepancies timely
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP for areas of responsibility
  • Support business partners and management by researching any questions; coordinate with internal teams to resolve processing issues
  • Prepare weekly rollforwards to support working capital management
  • Responsible for all sales tax handling for conformity with State regulations to include- general ledger entries and reconciliation associated with third party tax filer; compilation of monthly sales tax reporting for third party filer, prioritization and follow up of mail regarding any open items for sales tax and/or any audit data accumulation
  • Review of incoming mail and prioritization for outstanding issues, licenses, and registration; maintenance of online tax accounts; tax audit data accumulation; and management of tax Outlook inbox
  • Prepare audit schedules and reconciliations to help facilitate completion of the audit
  • Documentation of procedures; make recommendations for improvement of procedures

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of experience as a general staff accountant or similar experience
  • Experience with multiple entities

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience working with accounting software or an ERP system (NetSuite Preferred)
  • Highly organized, detail oriented; demonstrate consistent accuracy
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet various deadlines
  • Curious mindset to research and problem solve data, reports, and management requests
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Desire to work on a team, actively collaborate, and assist others when needed
