Position Highlights |
Senior Vice President for Health Sciences, Dr. Michael Dake, with the advice and counsel of a Search Committee, invites applications and nominations for the Dean of the recently established University of Arizona College of Health Sciences. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences, the Dean will be a key member of the health sciences leadership team; as such, the Dean will assume oversight for a complex set of responsibilities and have an opportunity for major impact. Given the importance of the role, the University of Arizona seeks an individual with a broad understanding of national health policies that spans health professions and who understands those policy implications for future challenges and opportunities for academic medicine.
With a focus on graduate programs, the College of Health Sciences, the sixth college at the University of Arizona Health Sciences, is committed to training students and developing a workforce of health professionals to serve the needs of Arizona's communities with compassionate and culturally sensitive care, research and service. The college offers five graduate-level degree programs: Midwifery, Physician Assistant, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Genetic Counseling and Clinical Translational Sciences.
The Dean of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Arizona oversees the strategic and operational leadership of the college, ensuring academic excellence, research advancement and community engagement across diverse health science disciplines. This position is responsible for building a strong faculty, developing partnerships within the community and healthcare sectors, and ensuring that the colleges meets the evolving needs of the health sciences education. The Dean collaborates closely with faculty, staff, students and external stakeholders to develop and uphold the college's mission and vision. The Dean will drive the interprofessional focus of the health science and professional programs at the new college, which is strategically developed to address the ongoing health workforce challenges in Arizona.

Duties & Responsibilities |
Leadership and Strategic Vision Provide visionary leadership that propels our mission forward, promoting a culture rooted in academic excellence, diversity, equity and inclusion. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial and innovative, dedicated to the success of the new college and its programs. By developing and executing strategic plans aligned with the university's overarching objectives, the Dean must aim to meet the evolving needs of health sciences education, research and practice. This entails navigating emerging trends and challenges, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and preparing our students and faculty to lead in an ever-changing health care landscape. Program Oversight Provide comprehensive oversight for the development of our health professional programs, ensuring strict adherence to accreditation standards, maintaining curriculum excellence and aligning with industry best practices. Collaborate closely with faculty and staff to continually enhance our educational offerings, which encompass robust clinical rotations and extensive research opportunities. These initiatives are designed to equip our graduates with the knowledge, skills and practical experience necessary to excel in their careers, particularly within specialized fields, to meet the evolving demands of the health care landscape and prepare our students to make meaningful contributions to their professions and communities.
Research and Innovation Champion a culture of research and innovation aimed at advancing health care knowledge and practice. Actively promote research initiatives, encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations that transcend traditional boundaries and foster novel approaches to health care challenges.
Community Engagement and Partnerships Cultivate and develop robust relationships with health care institutions, industry partners and community organizations to enrich educational opportunities, facilitate clinical placements and establish clear career pathways for our students. Foster these partnerships to ensure our graduates are well-prepared to meet the demands of their professions and contribute meaningfully to health care delivery. Serve as a dedicated liaison to professional organizations and accreditation bodies, advocating for the excellence of our programs and actively participating in national discussions related to our health professional programs.
Financial and Resource Management Commit to the efficient management of budgets and resources, prioritizing fiscal responsibility while aligning expenditures with strategic priorities. Oversee the college's financial operations with careful attention, ensuring transparency and accountability in all financial matters. Additionally, actively pursue opportunities for fundraising, philanthropy and external partnerships to foster program growth, enhance infrastructure development and expand scholarship opportunities for our students. Cultivate pathways of support to sustain and strengthen our commitment to excellence in education, research and community engagement within the field of health sciences. |
Minimum Qualifications |
- Terminal degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent health sciences degree) or a closely related discipline.
- Academic credentials to support the rank of associate or full professor on a tenure track in an appropriate academic discipline.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Significant academic leadership experience, preferably including program development, accreditation and faculty mentorship.
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in education and health care.
- Record of recruitment and development of diverse faculty, trainees and students.
- Experience and understanding of budgets and resource management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
