Job Summary:

This position will be located on the UW-Madison campus as part of the UW-Madison Physician Assistant Program. The UW-Madison PA program is located within the Health Science Learning Center in Madison, WI. The PA program currently matriculates over 65 students per year. This position is a 0.8-1.0 FTE (12-month appointment) non-tenure track academic staff faculty position in the Physician Assistant Program (UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), Academic Affairs). Upon joining the PA program, a minimum of 0.2 FTE clinical practice will be required. This position requires excellent interpersonal communication skills, strong leadership and teaching skills, a collaborative style to complement a team environment, and active clinical practice. This faculty will work with both the didactic and clinical year faculty and students.

Duties will include providing classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction associated with more than one lecture or laboratory course. This faculty will provide student mentoring for a subset of PA students, which includes regular meetings, grading and advising for the capstone process. This faculty will serve as an instructor of record for at least one course. Duties also include coordination of clinical rotations for students at the Madison campus and assisting with site visits, recruitment of new preceptors and coordination of other duties with UW Madison PA faculty.

An ideal candidate is a PA who is a strong, organized problem-solver. They must have effective communication skills with strong time-management skills.


Responsibilities:
Provides classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction associated with more than one lecture or laboratory course, assists with the design and execution of administrative functions associated with academic instruction and the development of pedagogy/andragogy or assessment tools and resources to support quality student learning. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.

  • 5% Works with faculty to identify and develop new methods of advancing instruction in the discipline
  • 15% Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
  • 15% Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy and may train other staff in use of these techniques
  • 30% Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
  • 10% Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties
  • 5% May make presentations to faculty and to staff members on instructional programs and techniques
  • 20% Assist with coordination of clinical rotations for students at the Madison campus and assisting with site visits, recruitment of new preceptors and coordination of other duties with UW Madison PA faculty.

- minimum of 3 years clinical practice as a Physician Assistant
- excellent verbal and written communication skills

- teaching experience in an academic setting highly desired

Licensed in the State of Wisconsin or ability to be licensed
