POSITION SUMMARY
The Risk Management Data Analyst will support Risk Management data and analytic projects with moderate to low supervision in collaboration with clinical, technical, business, and analytic stakeholders. This position will be responsible for translating data and reporting requests into technical requirements and specifications appropriate for report building and dashboards. This position will perform various routine and ad hoc clinical and operational data analyses in support of risk management. The Risk Management Data Analyst will design, build, validate, document and deploy business intelligence reports and dashboards using a variety of front-end visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.

2.Performs clinical and operational data analysis (staffing levels, clinical utilization, volume analysis, cost analysis) with outputs that are clear and relevant to the users.

3.Designs analysis methodology and tailors data outputs based on customer needs and understanding.

4.Provides internal documentation to ensure replicability as well as providing audit trails in all work with oversight of other department leaders and stakeholders. Completes assignments in an efficient, quality-focused manner.

5.Communicates any quality issues to IS or appropriate data source provider.

6.Validates and interprets data results, either independently or with assistance. Makes recommendations to management.

7.Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly and bi-annual reports (tabular, graphical, and written analysis formats) in support of business operations and quality improvement/patient safety initiatives, primarily related to the professional liability claims program, but also in support of other initiatives within the Risk Management Department.

8.Assists Risk and Insurance Director with physician/hospital PL insurance coverage for the Captive program. Assistance with database management of physician coverage, physician underwriting and review of contracts to verify coverage.

9.Works with the VP of Risk Management, MedStar's actuary, insurance broker and the finance department to develop the Captive PL budget and allocation of premium throughout the system. Ensures and validates the reliability of input data.

10.Develops and maintains documentation related to requirements gathering, design and build, testing and validation, extraction, transformation, and loading processes, quality assurance, and end user guides.

11.Develops and executes test plans to ensure error-free, high-quality deliverables. Reviews information to identify and interpret any patterns or useful trends.

12.Presents data to management with the simplicity of design in a clear, easy-to-understand format. Complex ideas are communicated with clarity, precision, and efficiency in a manner that ensures accurate comprehension by the recipient.

13.Actively looks for ways to improve and promote quality of deliverables, work product, and internal processes; apply feedback to improve performance; monitor own work to ensure quality.

14.Keeps abreast of current trends and developments in the healthcare and information technical industry.

15.Builds and maintains accurate, effective databases as required by individual projects. Ensures and validates the reliability of input data.

16.Demonstrates proficiency with data mining and manipulation tools including Excel and Access.

17.Demonstrates behavior consistent with MedStar Health mission, vision, goals, objectives, and patient care philosophy.

18.Contributes to the development and achievement of department goals and objectives; adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards, and ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures.

19.Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.

20.Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, computer sciences, actuarial science, information systems or related field required or equivalent technical experience required

Work Experience

3-4 years demonstrated experience in the healthcare industry collecting, managing, and analyzing data for clinical and non-clinical audiences required
1-2 years related experience in healthcare management or healthcare consulting preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Excellent communication, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills are required to collaborate and interact with a wide range of clinical, technical, analytical, and business associates. Excellent organizational skills required. Must be proactive and a self-starter.

2. Advanced analytical, conceptual and technical problem-solving solving abilities required.

3. Excellent attention to detail, required.

4. Proficiency with programs such as but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point, Microsoft Word, Power BI, Tableau,

6. Familiarity with risk management software such as Candello is desired, however willingness to learn is required. Candidates for this position should be able to spot trends and anomalies within data. This includes using reporting and statistics tools.

7. Awareness of risk management and medical professional liability claims management programs is desired, however willingness to learn is required.

8. Ability to manage multiple priorities and assess and adjust quickly to changing priorities. React well under pressure; treat others with respect and consideration; accept responsibility for own actions and work product; follow through on commitments.
