Job Summary

The Water Exercise Instructor will be responsible for leading safe, engaging, and effective water-based fitness classes for participants of all fitness levels. The Water Exercise Instructor will be responsible for designing and implementing workouts that enhance cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility, and overall well-being, all while ensuring a safe, fun, and motivating environment.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

Department Description

UCSF Fitness and Recreation operates two fitness centers at UCSF. We provide fitness and wellbeing services to UCSF Students, Faculty, Staff and Community members through a broad range of fitness, recreation, aquatics, personal training, outdoor programs, and health and wellness programs.

Required Qualifications


  • Water Exercise Instructor Certification such as YMCA, Aquatics Exercise Association (AEA), SCW Fitness, or other relevant water exercise and fitness certification (required)
  • American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification or equivalent Nationally Recognized Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification (active or obtained within 6 months of hire)
  • Verbal and written communication skills in the English language, active listening, dynamic flexibility, critical thinking, multi-task and time management skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent sound judgment and employ reasoning skills.
  • Client service minded, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills.
  • Basic skills in computer programs relevant to job duties.
  • Ability to successfully complete background check is required

Preferred Qualifications


  • Two years of more of experience as a Water Exercise Instructor
