Application Window Open date: November 1, 2024 Next review date: Sunday, Dec 1, 2024 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Friday, May 1, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description Assistant Professor of Surgery - Cardiothoracic Surgeon The Department of Surgery, Division of Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, is seeking outstanding candidates for a full time, academic Cardiothoracic Surgeon position. Candidates must have completed a cardiothoracic surgery residency and fellowship training in heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support, or have at least 3 years of transplantation and mechanical circulatory support experience, at the time of hire. Candidates must also be board eligible/board certified in Thoracic Surgery at the time of hire. Applicants' materials must list current, eligible, and/or pending qualifications upon submission. The successful candidate will have a broad practice in general cardiac surgery as well as specialize in adult heart and lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support, contributing to both clinical excellence and academic leadership in the field. This position offers a unique opportunity to advance innovative treatments and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to enhance patient care in the heart failure population. This position will provide expert clinical care in adult heart transplantation, mechanical circulatory support (MCS), including left ventricular assist devices (LVADs), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and total artificial heart systems, perform advanced surgical procedures, including heart transplants, MCS implantation, and complex cardiac reconstructions. This position will participate in the heart transplant program, contributing to patient selection, perioperative care, and post-transplant follow-up and be expected to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, heart failure specialists, transplant coordinators, and intensivists to develop comprehensive treatment plans for patients. This position will also assist in the development and expansion of the institution's heart failure, transplantation, and MCS programs, focusing on quality improvement and innovation and engage in community outreach and educational efforts to raise awareness of heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. Additionally, this position will help support the lung transplant program efforts. Equal participation in the call responsibilities for heart transplantation and general cardiac surgery will be expected. Research productivity is also expected. Candidates with experience in innovative technologies and approaches in MCS and transplantation and have a robust portfolio of clinical research are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have recognized skills in the education of surgery residents and medical students and will be expected to be active participants in the Department's residency training and educational programs. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $149,700 - $194,200.
