Summary:

The position is for a Research Assistant (RA) on two grant-funded research studies. Both focus on factors related to preventing risk behaviors among adolescents.

Responsibilities:

The RA*s responsibilities include coordination and implementation of study procedures including recruitment of youth and families in schools and in pediatrics practices as well as implementation of an online intervention laptop surveys and computer-based assessments.

RAs will be involved in physiological assessments (heart rate saliva collection) conducted while participants engage with virtual reality environments and complete computerized tasks. Responsibilities include device set up and data management.

Responsibilities also include IRB maintenance grant reporting tasks data management and other research tasks assigned by study personnel.

The RA is expected to work with adolescent participants and their parents as well as with all study personnel and related professionals as needed to advance the scientific aims and project related goals of the study.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

BS or BA in Psychology or closely related field. 1-2 years* research experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience working with adolescents and/or families is highly desirable.

RAs should be experienced with computer applications included word processing and excel.

Previous experience with human subject research is preferred.

Knowledge of experimental research methodology (including psychophysiological assessment) and knowledge of clinical research procedures is preferred.

Previous experience with statistical software (e.g. SPSS SAS R STATA) and database management is desirable.

Spanish language skills are also desirable.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

The Research Assistant position entails joining a research lab comprised of undergraduates graduate students pre- and post-doctoral fellows and faculty with expertise in adolescent risk behavior mental health and juvenile justice research. The RA selected for this position will be provided with research training and will gain a great deal of experience working directly with youth and families as well as with data collected as part of clnical trials. These skills will be invaluable to any candidate who wishes to pursue a career and/or advanced study in psychology medicine public health or a mental health related field. Because of the nature of the position the RA will be trusted with a great deal of responsibility for facilitating the ongoing research in accordance with established scientific protocols. Attention to detail critical thinking and strong interpersonal skills are required.

RAs are expected to attend regular supervision meetings with the PIs and study personnel.Due to the nature of the study flexibility in scheduling is also required (e.g. willingness to occasionally work week nights and weekends to accommodate participant schedules) and the RA must provide their own transportation between research sites.

In general it is expected that RAs perform work independently within Program policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of Program policies and procedures may be required.
