Position Highlights |
The primary role of the position will be to assist in teaching Clinical Skills, Live Animal Anesthesia & Surgery, Simulation Laboratories and Selective Courses. The candidate will partner with the manager of the veterinarian technical staff to set-up, maintain, and tear-down laboratory and other teaching stations as needed to deliver curricular content. Candidates will apply a student-centered approach to teaching and assessing professional competencies that include but are not limited to the safety of animal handling and restraint, physical examination, venipuncture, intravenous catheterization, in-house diagnostic tests, and anesthetic planning/induction/maintenance/recovery. The Technician II is responsible for all aspects of surgical care, including but not limited to performing diagnostics, administering and monitoring anesthesia, maintaining treatments, admitting and discharging patients, surgical assisting, and post-op care and recovery. Duties & Responsibilities |
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists faculty leads, Manager, and the course teams with the development, design, and active facilitation of Clinical Skills, Anesthesia & Surgery simulation labs, live animal surgery and selective coursework.
- Set-up for veterinary lab and/or other related student learning activities based upon the vision that Course Coordinator(s) and Course Affiliated Veterinarian faculty wish to execute.
- Administers animal care and medical treatments such as venous catheterization placement, endotracheal intubation, anesthetic administration and monitoring peri-operative nursing care, bandage removal and or replacement, restraint/handling.
- Prepares and assembles surgical supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures at multiple surgical sites. Tracks inventory of supplies, and communicates purchasing needs to faculty leads. Assists with pre and post-surgery set-up/breakdown of the prep room, operating room, and recovery area. Performs scheduled maintenance of equipment at appropriate intervals.
- Assists with surgical patient acquisition and transport, ensuring patient safety and well being at all times. Promptly identifies patient distress or other apparent medical concerns and communicates them to faculty and team lead.
- Participate in team meetings, trainings and continuing education events.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Advanced veterinary anesthetic knowledge with ability to recognize and respond to abnormal patient physiological parameters under anesthesia
- Patience with ability to stay calm under pressure and help guide students during high stakes situations

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- In addition to the education and experience minimum qualifications, CVT required.

- Willingness to work a flexible schedule M-F is required, hours vary and are dependent on the needs of the CVM courses.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Clinical experience with the following species: dogs, cats, horses, cattle, and small ruminants
- Teaching experience, either at an academic teaching hospital or in clinical practice, overseeing pre-vet shadows, externs, interns, or residents
- Fear-free certification and/or familiarity with principles of fear-free and feline-friendly practice.
