EOC Access & Student Success Coordinator

The University of Pittsburgh's University Educational Outreach Center (EOC) is actively seeking an Access & Student Success Coordinator committed to advancing equitable K12 pathways to college and through college for underserved and historically underrepresented students. This role will report to the Manager of Access and Student Success.

Work Environment: This is a hybrid position which will require you to split your time between the University of Pittsburgh campus and the communities we serve.

Minimum Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of relevant student success experience.
  • Proficiency in software tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Additionally, you should be comfortable with engaging through social media platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent typing speed, and fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English are essential for this position.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, enabling you to thrive in a dynamic and ever-changing environment.
  • Access to transportation is recommended, with the ability to travel within the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.

Clearance and Background Checks:
Please note that, as a condition of employment and prior to commencement, you may be required to obtain the following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, and PA Child Abuse History Clearance. Finalists for the position will need to successfully complete a background check to secure employment with the University.

Job Summary

Utilizes basic advising knowledge, theory, and practical experience to serve as an academic liaison for students to identify academic and career goals, select appropriate courses, and plan for degree attainment. Manages small, routine projects.


Essential Functions

As the Access & Student Success Coordinator, your primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Student Success Resource Support
a. Maintain and evaluate an infrastructure to navigate EOC scholars through Pitt's network of student support resources.
b. Help EOC scholars overcome barriers to success by connecting them to appropriate resources, such as tutoring, counseling, and financial aid.
c. Implement student intake processes, transition ceremonies, orientations and student success care connections.
d. Monitor student-referral connections and evaluate for effectiveness.
e. Collaborate with other departments to identify student needs and create strategies to address those needs. Build strong relationships with faculty, academic departments, and student services to foster a collaborative approach to student success.
f. Identify and intervene in situations where students are struggling academically or personally, connecting them with resources such as counseling or emergency aid.

2. Student Success Programs and Initiatives
a. Provide individualized academic coaching to EOC scholars.
b. Assist EOC scholars in developing personalized success plans, including academic, career and personal development goals.
c. Maintain regular communication with EOC scholars through multiple channels, including email, phone and in-person meetings.
d. Develop, implement and evaluate programs that support EOC scholar retention, persistence, and overall success.
e. Organize workshops, seminars, and events focused on academic skills, career readiness, time management, and mental wellness.
f. Track EOC scholars' progress using data management systems and provide regular reports on student performance, retention and success outcomes.
g. Implement retention strategies to increase persistence and completion rates among students, particularly for at-promise or underrepresented scholars.
h. Conduct outreach to EOC scholars who are at risk of academic difficulty or disengagement, offering proactive support.
i. Serve as main point of contact for EOC scholars regarding academic support services, policies, and procedures.
j. Stay updated on best practices in student success, retention, and academic advising through professional development opportunities.
k. Rotate on-call responsibilities with team members.
