Adjunct Instructor - Diversity Issues in Public Service (Online)

The Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA) is seeking a part-time instructor for its Spring 2025 course, PUBSRV 1310 - Diversity Issues in Public Service. This is a full-semester, 3-credit, undergraduate course in the school's Public Service program, offered through the College of General Studies. The Spring 2025 term runs from Wednesday, January 8, 2025, through Wednesday, April 30, 2025. This is an online hybrid class that combines asynchronous teaching with a limited number of synchronous workshops.

The successful candidate will be provided with a master syllabus and other instructional materials and will work with a CGS instructional designer to prepare the class for instruction. Teaching duties include, but are not limited, to leading class sessions, grading and commenting on students' work, providing timely and frequent feedback on student assignments, utilizing Canvas, and being available to meet with students. Instructor is expected to be responsive to all student inquiries. Enrollment will be approximately 25 students.

Successful applicants will have at least a Master's degree in a relevant field (public administration, nonprofit management, social work). Prior experience working in public service is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have previously engaged in remote, online or distanced teaching; familiarity with learning management systems such as Blackboard or Canvas; and a proven ability to interact and communicate effectively with diverse undergraduate student audiences, including nontraditional and adult students.

Course Description - PUBSRV 1310 - Diversity Issues in Public Service

Understanding and managing diversity in complex public service settings is a key challenge for government and nonprofit managers. This course provides the background knowledge and skills needed to manage public service organizations and decrease barriers to participation in an increasingly diverse society. Drawing on the experiences of society's minority or disadvantaged groups (based on race, age, gender, or disability), students will be exposed to multiple perspectives on the nature of public service.

Please include if you have post-secondary teaching experience, especially in an undergraduate, online modality.
